Gideon Identity Discovery Profile
This is an exercise to help you come into a greater revelation of who you are and what you are called to do.
Answer the questions as you would answer them today. The purpose of this exercise is not to perfectly chart out the rest of your life, it is to uncover destiny clues and to help you better understand your divine DNA.
Relax, this is not a test. It is a worksheet.
God Encounter
Judges 6:11–12Then the angel of the LORD came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites. The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, “The LORD is with you, O valiant warrior.”
Judges 6:11–12God Given Identity
Judges 6:12The angel of the LORD appeared to him and said to him, “The LORD is with you, O valiant warrior.”
Judges 6:12For example: when you were playing as a child, hobbies, and so on.
Gideon’s Frustration
Judges 6:13Then Gideon said to him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.”
Judges 6:13What frustrates or angers you most is often a clue to the problems you are created to solve.
Gideon’s frustration and anger
- Why has this happened? — frustration
- Where are all the miracles? — disappointment
- Our fathers told us… — testimonies from the past
- Did not the Lord deliver us? — remembering the stories
God Given Mission
Judges 6:14The LORD looked at him and said, “Go in this your strength and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?”
Judges 6:14Gideon was told to “Go and Deliver.”
The action words that stir your heart are often clues that point to what you are called to do.
You now have a powerful statement that encompasses your heart passion and mission.
Replacing False and Low Identities
Judges 6:15He said to Him, “O Lord, how shall I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father’s house.”
Judges 6:15Gideon had been told that his family was the lowest of the lowest. This false identity needed to be replaced for him to step into his place of saving a nation.
Write several low or false identities you have struggled with. Next to the false identity, write out your true identity.
Example
False identity: “lowest of the low” → True identity: “nation changer”
| False Identity | True Identity |

Revelation of God
Judges 6:22–24The LORD said to him, “Peace to you, do not fear; you shall not die.” Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and named it The LORD is Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Judges 6:23–24Gideon encountered God as Jehovah Shalom. The Lord is Prosperity and Peace. This revelation was key to bring Gideon and a nation out of poverty, lack and defeat.
Family Strengths and Strongholds
Judges 6:25–32Now on the same night the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s bull and a second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal which belongs to your father, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it; and build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold in an orderly manner, and take a second bull and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.” Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the LORD had spoken to him; and because he was too afraid of his father’s household and the men of the city to do it by day, he did it by night.
Judges 6:25–27Example of Gideon’s father. In the verses above, what is Gideon’s father doing?
Gideon’s father
- was a WORSHIPPER — yes, the wrong god, but interested in spiritual things.
- name was JOASH. God is STRONG.
- challenged them to believe in the SUPERNATURAL. (let Baal defend himself)
- spoke with WISDOM and BOLDNESS and AUTHORITY.
- released a sound and his voice SAVED his son.
Gideon’s family was created to be WORSHIPERS, people of STRENGTH, who move in the SUPERNATURAL with WISDOM, BOLDNESS and AUTHORITY that brings SAVING BREAKTHROUGH.
Gideon’s father is demonstrating that he is wired for these things even while he is serving false gods. The devil does not create, he only steals and perverts what God has created.
Gideon becomes a follower of the Living God and these strengths are manifest in his life as God always intended for them to manifest in Gideon’s family.
“That’s interesting, they…” As an emotionally disconnected reporter, write what you see. Do not worry right now about whether they are good, bad, neutral, or amazing. Just write them out.
What has the enemy stolen and taken advantage of in your family that is meant to be a God stronghold? For example, your family may be very good at criticizing and cursing. What if your family was given a gift of powerful speech and is actually meant to be very good at blessing and encouraging? You would write: Criticizing and cursing TO blessing and encouraging. You can also write good things and how you see the opportunity for them to be better things: Information and learning TO revelation.
God’s Anointing
Judges 6:33–35So the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon; and he blew a trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called together to follow him.
